Wearable Display vs. Hotel TV: Why Travellers Are Switching to a Private Screen
The case for carrying your own screen instead of fighting for the hotel remote.
Hotel TVs have three problems: they are never where you want to watch, the remote controls nothing, and the person next to you wants a different channel. A wearable HDMI display solves all three by putting the screen on your face instead of the wall.
The VUEHMD 6360P weighs 305 g and shows a 1280 × 800 image per eye — roughly equivalent to a 120-inch screen viewed from four metres. Connect it to a laptop over HDMI, or to a Steam Deck or USB-C phone with a small converter, and any seat becomes a private cinema.
On a long-haul flight the maths is simple: a 3-hour battery covers most flights, the image is visible only to you, and seat-back HDMI or a nearby laptop takes over from there. Nothing to mount, nobody to disturb.
Is it for everyone? If you only ever watch on a big living-room TV, no. But for frequent travellers, the weight of a 120-inch screen is surprisingly close to nothing.
